We became involved with Rottweilers in 1991 with the purchase of Cannard's IYD Rufus McGruder, CD, CGC, TT. While Rufus was not a show quality Rottweiler, he spent his life teaching people about Rottweilers. He lived a wonderful life and crossed the Rainbow Bridge at 1 month short of 13 years, and had a gallery of people who loved him that stretched across the USA. In attaining his AKC Companion Dog title, he helped me become involved in the show world, both obedience and conformation. He then helped me pick my first and second show dogs, purchase a van, become a trainer and the rest is history.
In the summer of 1991 an AKC Judge was asked by a friend to evaluate Rufus, and to start my education. His words to me were,
" You will never finish this dog, he is not show quality. However, show him and spend your time learning. When you are ready to purchase a show dog, you will have some idea of what is is you are trying to accomplish. Furthermore, if you are still with us in 5 years, you will be here to stay. Good Luck."
Thank you Vince!
Well, we are still here after 17 years, and we are still learning. We have accomplished some of the goals, but there are so many more. I hope to educate, assist, train and introduce many more people to this wonderful breed.
I would like to thank all of those who have mentored me over the years. Some of you by choice and some because you knew somebody had to. I have many wonderful friends and have met some incredible dogs over the years. Thank You for sharing...
We have produced our first three home bred, live at home Champions, one being an American/Canadian CH (Ausha) with multiple Best of Breed awards and one being our first Male Champion (Tango)also with Multiple Best of Breed awards (and also of the third generation), and the other is Dubie just a CH but she promised to finish and have pups if she could retire to the couch! We also have several youngsters coming up that we have great hope for.
Our kennel is located in Shelton, WA on 10 wonderful acres of wooded property. We are currently in the process of building a full kennel building, and have recently set up a training and practice facility on the property, see www.k9kapers.com.
Please enjoy our site. The puppies and planned litters pages will be updated periodically, and be sure to visit Rainbow Bridge to meet Rufus and those two first show dogs as well as other family members that have moved on and are waiting for us someday.
Be sure to check out the other pages as well, we will be adding media and information as time alows. "To err is to human as to forgive is to canine"
